DNA policy

Missed Appointments (Did Not Attend) Policy
At Classic Way Family Practice, we aim to provide timely access to appointments for all our patients. Missed appointments limit availability for others and reduce the effective use of clinical time.

What is a Missed Appointment?
A missed appointment (Did Not Attend – DNA) occurs when a patient does not attend their scheduled appointment and does not provide prior notice to cancel or reschedule.

Our DNA Policy
First Missed Appointment
If you miss an appointment without notice:

  • The appointment will be recorded as a DNA

  • You will receive an SMS reminder about the importance of attending or cancelling appointments

  • No fee will apply at this stage

Second Missed Appointment
If you miss a second appointment without notice:

  • The appointment will again be recorded as a DNA

  • You will receive an SMS advising that a DNA fee may apply for future bookings

DNA Fee

  • After a second missed appointment, a $40 DNA fee may be required before booking further appointments

  • This fee helps offset the cost of unused appointment time and encourages appointment attendance

  • The fee is recorded on your patient account
     

When Fees May Be Waived
We understand that unexpected events can occur. DNA fees may be waived at the discretion of the practice in cases such as:

  • Medical emergencies

  • Significant illness

Please speak with our reception staff if you believe your situation warrants consideration.

How You Can Help
If you are unable to attend your appointment, please notify us as early as possible so we can offer the time to another patient. Appointments can be cancelled or rescheduled by phone or via our online booking system.

Policy Review
This policy is reviewed periodically to ensure it remains fair and appropriate for our patients and staff.
